Oktoberfest 2015: Calendar
Seven Oktoberfest events in 2015 that beer festival fans should not miss under any circumstances.
Hendl (roast chicken), dancing on beer tables and Oktoberfest flirts are all well and good - but what would Oktoberfest be without the ceremonial tapping of the keg, the family day and the firecracker shooting on the steps of Bavaria statue?
Grand entry of the Oktoberfest landlords
Without the traditional entry, there would be no Oktoberfest. That's why this year again, on the first Sunday of the 182nd Oktoberfest, the hosts and families will march through the Okoberfest halls in their flower decorated carriages, followed by the band's music. The grand entry of the landlords takes place before the famous „O' zapfn“, a symbolic ceremony of tapping the first keg and therefore opening the whole festival.
Date: Sat, 19 September 2015 at 10:45 o'clock
Location: from Sonnenstrasse until Theresienwiese
Opening of Oktoberfest at Schottenhamel
Finally, here it is again: "O'zapft is!" (This is what Bavarians use to say when a new barrel is opened). It is the most famous moment during Oktoberfest, and it takes place in one of the most important festival tents - Schottenhamel. At noon, on the first Oktoberfest day, Munich's new mayor Dieter Reiter taps the first beer keg. After the traditional twelve gun salutes the beer will be flowing like water for the next 16 days.
Date: Sat, 19 September 2015, 12 o'clock
Oktoberfest traditional costumes and riflemen
The very next Sunday, the Trachtler (performers in traditional costumes) have their grand entry. At 9.45 o'clock in the morning they are going to parade through Munich.
Start: the city center. Finish: Theresienwiese, of course.
Traditional folklore societies from all over the world can register for the parade at Festring Munich. The only rule - the more colorful the mix, the more relaxed the atmosphere.
Date: Sun, 20 September 2015, 9.45 clock
Location: from Munich city center to Theresienwiese
Oktoberfest Family Day
It’s not just the adults who want to have fun at Oktoberfest. Conveniently, there are numerous rides for the little adventurers as well. In the long run, however, the festival can become an expensive pleasure. In order to keep everyone in the fun mood, there are two days during Oktoberfest when a variety of carnies and food-concession businesses offer special prices for children and families. If proven very brave, the kids could get a ride on the Viking ship twice in a row.
Dates: Tuesday, 22 September 2015, 12 to 18 o’clock / Tue, 29 September 2015, 12 to 18 o’clock
Concert of the Oktoberfest bands
On 27 September, it will become loud outside the tents - and at the feet of the Bavaria statue on the Theresienwiese.
A gathering of chapels from all tents will have a concert starting at 11 o'clock. Under the leadership of prominent guest conductors, up to 300 musicians will interpret familiar tunes and marches. And at the end of the concert, a countless number of colorful balloons will take over the Munich sky.
Date: Sun, 27 September 2015, 11 o'clock
Location: Bavaria statue, Theresienwiese
On some days, Oktoberfest can get very colorful and flashy - and those are the days when gays and lesbians have their fun at "Pink Oktoberfest". In addition to "Gay Sunday" on the first Oktoberfest Sunday and "RoslMontag" on the first Oktoberfest Monday in „Bräurosl“, the 28th of September in „Fischer-Vroni“ is especially recommended - even for straight people. For that is when „Prosecco Oktoberfest“ starts, at 13 o’clock to be exact. The highlight of that Oktoberfest day is "Baby Bubble's" drag show taking place in the evening.
Date: Mon, 28 September 2015, 13 o'clock
Oktoberfest firecrackers shooting on the steps of Bavaria
On the last day of the 182nd Oktoberfest, at 12 o’clock, traditional gun salutes take place as the riflemen salute the Bavarian shooting sport association's Oktoberfest competition. The champion marksmen are elected on the steps of Bavaria on a grand scale. The way the first keg tapping and the start of Oktoberfest was celebrated with twelve shots, the Oktoberfest is going to end with a firecracker shooting accompanied by a brass band.
Date: Sun, 04 October 15, 12 o'clock
